Theory Component
The theory component of this course is 60 hours in length. Initially, there is an intensive four to five days of face-to-face training. It is followed up with online workshops that will be run in the evenings throughout the following year. A minimum of 40 hours is delivered by direct instruction. The remaining hours will consist of follow-up tasks and readings for each module.
Participants can also opt for a follow-up practicum. It is strongly recommended that you commit to a practicum as this enables you to put your learning into practice under the guidance of an experienced mentor.
Practicum Requirements
You will be required to work with a practicum student for a minimum of 50 hours. You will submit ten lesson plans and will be observed teaching this student for a whole 45-60 minute lesson either face-to-face or via video for three lessons over a minimum of 8 months. You will be given oral and written feedback. You will conduct a pre- and post-assessment and write a diagnostic initial report and a summary of progress at the end of the required hours.
You will also need a further 40 hours of experience working with other students.
