Structured Literacy Training

Theory Component
Self-paced online introductory unit before face-to-face training
45 hours total:
5 intensive face-to-face training days (After this time, participants will feel confident to begin working with students)
Minimum 30 hours delivered by direct instruction
Remaining hours include self-paced learning, follow-up tasks, and readings to consolidate and expand on the initial 5 day intensive training
Participants can also opt for a follow-up practicum. It is strongly recommended that you commit to a practicum as this enables you to put your learning into practice under the guidance of an experienced mentor.
Practicum Requirements
You will complete:
Minimum 40 hours working with a practicum student over a minimum of 8 months
Additional 40 hours experience with other students
For your practicum student, you will:
Submit 10 lesson plans, including 3 observed lessons (45–60 mins each) either face-to-face or via video. You will be given oral and written feedback
Conduct a pre- and post-assessment and write a diagnostic initial report and a summary of progress at the end of the required hours
